Professor Barbara Jarząb is a leading endocrinologist and nuclear medicine specialist at the Maria Skłodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology (Gliwice Branch), where she served as Head of the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Endocrine Oncology for 30 years (1992-2022). She currently holds key positions including President of the Polish Group of Endocrine Tumors and ENDO-ERN National Coordinator for rare endocrine conditions. She is an elected member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Her research revolutionizes thyroid cancer treatment through:
- Gene expression profiling of thyroid malignancies
- Genetic predisposition studies for medullary/non-medullary thyroid cancer
- Implementation of molecular diagnostics and personalized therapies
- Pioneering work on multikinase inhibitors and radioiodine therapy
