Barbara Horvath

Prof. Barbara Horvath is a Professor and Chair of Dermatology at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Medical Sciences. She leads the Department of Dermatology at the UMCG (University Medical Center Groningen) and is affiliated with the Translational Immunology Groningen (TRIGR) research group. Her expertise focuses on autoimmune blistering diseases, hidradenitis suppurativa, and immunodermatology. She holds an honorary membership in the Hungarian Society of Dermatology and Venereology (2023).

Her research explores clinical and immunological aspects of skin diseases, with a focus on precision medicine for hidradenitis suppurativa and the impact of SARS-CoV-2 on inflammatory skin conditions. She serves as an Associate Editor of the British Journal of Dermatology and advises patient organizations like the Blaarziekten Network and Hidradenitis Patient Association.

Recent studies highlight her work on B cell depletion therapy, neutrophil extracellular traps in systemic lupus erythematosus, and dietary factors in hidradenitis suppurativa. Her articles span clinical management guidelines, autoimmune pathogenesis, and translational immunology.

Awards include the 2023 Honorary Membership from the Hungarian Society of Dermatology. She actively collaborates in European networks like ERN-SKIN and contributes to clinical trials with pharmaceutical companies (Argenx, Novartis, etc.), with fees directed to the UMCG.

Horvath advises on drug development for HS and AIBD, lectures nationally and internationally, and organizes educational programs like the National Blaarcursus in Groningen.
