Barbara Hanna

Dr. Barbara Hanna is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Languages and Cultures, University of Queensland. Her research focuses on intercultural communication, language learner identity, and the role of online technologies in language education. She has extensive experience in study abroad experiences, language teaching innovation, and evaluative judgment research.

• Education: B.A. (Hons) and Ph.D. from the University of Queensland, M.Res. from Université de Franche Comté.

Her work investigates how non-native speakers construct identity in digital and intercultural contexts, including public internet forums, study abroad testimonials, and language learner motivation. Recent publications analyze the effects of rubrics on feedback quality, cross-cultural skills in education, and cultural information gathering by students.

Current projects examine employability for language students (funded by SLC) and the pedagogical implications of online technologies. She supervises doctoral research on topics spanning language retention, intercultural capability, and mobile-assisted language learning.
