Said Hannouchi

Said Hannouchi is a Lecturer III and Director of the Arabic Language Program at the University of Michigan's Center for Middle Eastern & North African Studies (CMENAS), affiliated with the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA). He holds a PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2017). His research focuses on Arabic language learners' intercultural communicative competence and identity development through study abroad, with additional interests in language policy in multilingual contexts and education in Morocco/North Africa. Current projects include analyzing cultural identity experiences of Arabic learners in summer homestays abroad.

Teaching emphasizes exploring social/cultural issues in Arabic-speaking societies via contemporary cinema, literature, and media. Hannouchi's office is located at 202 South Thayer Street (3163 STB, Ann Arbor), and he can be reached at saidhann@umich.edu.
