Barbara Frei is an Adjunct Research Professor in the Department of Biology at Carleton University, affiliated with the Faculty of Science. She holds degrees from Carleton University (B.Sc.), McGill University (M.Sc. and Ph.D.). Her research focuses on conservation solutions, human-wildlife interactions, and biodiversity in anthropogenic landscapes. She collaborates with NGOs, Indigenous communities, and academic institutions to address climate change impacts, migratory bird ecology, and ecosystem services.
Her work integrates field studies, large-scale modeling, and community-science datasets. Notable topics include urban stopover sites for songbirds, climate-driven migration shifts in waterfowl, and resilient agricultural landscapes. She co-supervises students across universities and supports Indigenous-led conservation efforts.
Publications highlight themes like molting bird behavior, spatiotemporal climate effects, and long-term migration trends. Her research emphasizes applied, interdisciplinary approaches to achieve co-benefits for nature and human well-being.
