معرفی
Charles M. Francis is an Adjunct Research Professor in the Department of Biology at Carleton University, affiliated with the Faculty of Science. He serves as Manager of Wildlife Monitoring and Assessment at the Canadian Wildlife Service (Environment and Climate Change Canada), based at the National Wildlife Research Centre on Carleton's campus. His research focuses on wildlife monitoring programs, particularly migratory birds and bats, leveraging technology such as aerial imagery, acoustic sensors, and weather radar to improve conservation efforts.
Education:
- B.Sc. (Guelph)
- M.Sc. (Queen's)
- Ph.D. (Queen's)
Research Interests:
- Development of innovative monitoring tools (e.g., autonomous recording units for songbird detection, radar-based migration tracking)
- Threat assessments for North American bats and taxonomy of Southeast Asian bats
- Integration of population models with observational data (e.g., owl populations in Finland)
- Application of quantitative methods to analyze survey data and evaluate conservation strategies
Student Opportunities: Co-supervises graduate/undergraduate students with quantitative skills, focusing on applied projects like acoustic survey analysis, radar migration studies, or statistical modeling of wildlife populations.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with the Canadian Wildlife Service and interdisciplinary teams on fieldwork and data-driven conservation initiatives.
