Barbara Engelmann serves as a Researcher in the Department of Fundamental Theology at the Faculty of Catholic Theology, University of Tübingen, a position she has held since 2022. She teaches core courses including Introduction to Fundamental Theology across multiple semesters and specialized seminars addressing contemporary theological challenges such as gender, intersectionality, and unconventional topics like UFOs in theological discourse.
Her academic credentials include:
- Magister Theologiae (2019-2023) from Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster
- Master of Education (2015-2018) from the University of Cologne focusing on Catholic Religious Education, History, and Educational Sciences
- Bachelor of Arts (2011-2015) from the University of Cologne in identical teaching disciplines
Engelmann's research critically engages theological anthropology through intersectional frameworks, with particular emphasis on body politics, disability studies, and feminist theology. Her work challenges existing theological paradigms by integrating Black feminist perspectives and examining how gender, race, and ability intersect in religious discourse. She actively contributes to decolonizing theological methodologies through intersectional critique.
She has participated in German Research Foundation (DFG) funded research on 'Glauben' (Belief) at the University of Cologne (2019-2022) and holds certification as a mental health first responder at the University of Tübingen. Her professional service extends to academic governance as a delegate for middle academic staff at the Catholic Theological Faculty Assembly.
Engelmann maintains active membership in key scholarly networks including Disability Studies Germany Association, AGENDA (Forum of Catholic Women Theologians), Young AGENDA, German Society for Philosophy of Religion, and the Young Network for Dogmatics and Fundamental Theology, demonstrating deep engagement with contemporary theological discourse and social justice initiatives.
