Barbara Brody is an Associate Professor of Practice at Oregon State University within the College of Health, affiliated with the School of Nutrition and Public Health and the Malheur County Extension Service. She leads programs such as the Malheur Works internship initiative, SNAP-Ed, Better Bones and Balance, and Walk With Ease, focusing on workforce development, chronic disease prevention, and early childhood resilience. Her work addresses challenges in Malheur County, including high child poverty rates and a large Hispanic population.
Key programs include the Malheur Works Student Internship Program, fostering youth career readiness, and SNAP-Ed, providing nutrition education. She also co-developed the Nurturing Resilience series targeting early childhood resilience through protective factors and mindful practices. Barbara collaborates with community stakeholders to design interventions addressing rural health disparities, trauma-informed care, and economic development.
Her research emphasizes community-driven solutions, such as the Aerospace Academy for STEM engagement and the Community Conversations on mental health. Barbara’s efforts have secured grant funding and strengthened interagency partnerships in rural Oregon.
