Dr. Barbara Blacklaws is a Senior Lecturer in Molecular Virology at the Department of Veterinary Medicine, University of Cambridge. Her research focuses on immune responses to persistent viral infections, particularly gastrointestinal viruses and their interactions with host immune cells.
- BSc (Hon) in Biochemistry from University of Aberdeen
- PhD in Virology from University of Cambridge
Her work involves studying murine norovirus (MNV) as a model for gastrointestinal immunity and viral persistence, alongside research on visna maedi virus in sheep and Salmonella enterica. Recent projects include metagenomic sequencing applications in microbiome analysis and conservation studies of Juan Fernandez Fur seals.
Dr. Blacklaws is affiliated with the Laboratory of Viral Zoonotics and Cambridge Infectious Diseases. She has received funding from the Medical Research Council and PetSavers, and her research contributes to understanding host-pathogen dynamics in immune cell tropism.
