Barbara Bisetto-Dep is an Associate Professor in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Verona. She specializes in Chinese philology, premodern literature, and translation studies, with a focus on commentarial traditions and vernacular narratives. Her research also extends to legal linguistics and corpus linguistics.
She teaches courses including Chinese literature and culture, varieties of Chinese language, and cultural studies within the Bachelor's and Master's programs in Languages and Cultures for Tourism and International Commerce. Her teaching emphasizes bridging language proficiency with cultural understanding, particularly in tourism and commercial contexts.
Prof. Bisetto-Dep actively contributes to academic governance, serving as Chair of the Internationalisation Committee and a member of the PhD Board in Foreign Literatures, Languages, and Linguistics. She is a core member of the Progetto di eccellenza: Le Digital Humanities applicate alle lingue e letterature straniere (since 2018).
Her research explores premodern Chinese narrative traditions (Yuan, Ming, Qing dynasties), intralingual/interlingual translation practices, and legal language analysis. She is available for thesis supervision in tourism communication-related topics and tutoring in Chinese literature exams.
