Dr. Barbara Adler is a Group Leader at the Medical Faculty of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, affiliated with the Department of Virology at the Max von Pettenkofer-Institute. She specializes in experimental virology, focusing on Cytomegalovirus (CMV) pathogenesis, glycoprotein function, and immune interactions.
Her research explores viral entry mechanisms, host cell metabolism during infection, and immune modulation. Key contributions include studies on CMV glycoproteins (gH/gL/gO), interferon signaling, and the role of viral proteins in latency and spread. She has secured funding from the DFG and BMBF.
Recent publications highlight her work on:
- CMV glycoprotein O’s role in epithelial and mononuclear cell infection
- Interferon’s impact on viral latency and macrophage function
- Host-pathogen interactions in perinatal infections
- RNA-binding proteins in T-cell diversity
Notable awards include a BMBF Infektionsstipendium (1998-2002) and a DFG Ausbildungsstipendium (1996-1997). She leads a research team including postdoctoral and doctoral researchers.
