Barbara Abrams, PhD, is a Professor and Chair in the Department of History, Language & Global Culture at Suffolk University. She also directs the Global and Cultural Studies Major Program. Her research focuses on French literature of the Enlightenment, Global and Cultural Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies. Key projects include the archival research project ReSisters examining 18th-century French women’s experiences and the book Reframing Rousseau’s Le Lévite d’Ephraïm. She is the academic liaison for Suffolk’s French programs in Vichy and Lille.

She teaches courses such as Global Women’s Fiction and Enlightened Insanity, and oversees internship and professional development programs for Global and Cultural Studies students.
As a liaison for study abroad programs, she supports student exchanges in France. Her scholarship bridges historical analysis with contemporary cultural frameworks, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to literature and social history.
