Professor Bao Nguyen serves as a Professor of Chemistry in the School of Chemistry at the University of Leeds, Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, where he has been a core member since September 2012. He actively collaborates across chemistry and chemical engineering departments and is a pivotal figure in the Institute of Process Research and Development (iPRD), established through the Leeds Transformation Fund to advance industrial process innovation.
His educational trajectory includes a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Oxford (2008) under John M. Brown FRS, where he pioneered the first Pd-catalysed coupling reaction using sulfur dioxide, and a Bachelor of Science (Advanced stream) with Honours from the University of Sydney (2002).
Nguyen's research integrates Physical Organic Chemistry with AI-driven methodologies to optimize sustainable industrial processes. Key focus areas include:
