Balthasar A. Heesters

Dr. Balthasar A. Heesters is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery at Utrecht University, Faculty of Science. His research centers on immunology, with a particular focus on follicular dendritic cells (FDCs), innate lymphoid cells (ILCs), and host-pathogen interactions. He is actively involved in understanding immune mechanisms in health and disease, including autoimmune disorders, viral infections like HIV and SARS-CoV-2, and cancer immunotherapy.

Recent studies include investigations into ILC memory, FDC roles in autoimmunity, SARS-CoV-2 spike protein interactions, and immune responses in humanized mouse models of cancer.

Teaching and Mentorship: Dr. Heesters contributes to teaching in pharmaceutical sciences and immunology, and mentors students and researchers in experimental immunology and chemical biology.
