Dr. Azmeary Ferdoush is a Lecturer in Human Geography at Loughborough University, UK, and a Docent in Political Geography at the University of Oulu, Finland. His research focuses on borders, citizenship, sovereignty, and decolonial praxis, with a regional emphasis on South Asia and the Arctic. He holds a PhD from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, supported by the prestigious East-West Center Fellowship.

His research explores how state-made borders and bounded spaces influence human mobility and vice versa. Key themes include state sovereignty, (non)citizenship, and critical geopolitics. Recent work includes analyzing the coexistence of sovereign exceptions and examples in Bangladesh and Finland, and the dynamics of citizenship in postcolonial South Asian enclaves.
Dr. Ferdoush has been awarded the 2023 Stanley D. Brunn Junior Scholar Award by the Political Geography Specialty Group of the AAG. His work has been funded by the Research Council of Finland and the American Association of Geographers.
