Azlan Tajuddin is a Professor and Chair in both the Sociology and International Studies departments at La Roche University. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee, an M.A. from the University of Sheffield (England), and a B.A. from the University of Minnesota. His research focuses on migration, transnationalism, diaspora politics, and statelessness in Southeast Asia, with notable work on the Chinese diaspora in colonial Malaya and the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar. He has organized study abroad programs to Turkey, Finland, Morocco/Spain, Denmark, Peru, South Africa, and China since 2013.
His professional contributions include the 2021 Outstanding Faculty Award from La Roche University and membership in prestigious organizations like the International Academy of Social Sciences. Tajuddin’s publications span sociopolitical analyses of democratic development in Timor-Leste and Indonesia, as well as historical studies of diasporic communities. His 2014 book, Malaysia in the World Economy (1824-2011), explores capitalism and ethnic divisions in Malaysian political economy.
