Ayon Ibrahim is an Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences at Union College's Biology Department. His research focuses on understanding cellular mechanisms of lipid transport across endothelial barriers and their implications in metabolic disorders like obesity. He holds a B.S. from Union College and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
Research Interests: Dr. Ibrahim investigates how bloodborne lipids traverse capillary walls, particularly focusing on endothelial cell responses to high-fat diets. His work integrates cell biology, lipid metabolism, and vascular physiology to uncover pathways linking dietary fat to systemic metabolic dysfunction. Key areas include endothelial lipotoxicity, fatty acid transport regulation, and metabolic signaling crosstalk.
Publications Highlight: His studies on insulin-stimulated adipocyte-lactate signaling (2022) and mitochondrial ATP's role in endothelial lipid uptake (2020) demonstrate interdisciplinary approaches to vascular metabolism. Recent work (2023) explores lipid droplet-mediated blood pressure regulation via eNOS suppression.
Teaching: Courses include Advanced Cell Biology (BIO 358) and Cellular Foundations of Life (BIO 104). His lab is located in ISEC 321, focusing on experimental models of endothelial lipid handling and metabolic disease mechanisms.
