Dr Ayman Mahmoud is a Senior Lecturer in Cellular & Molecular Physiology at Manchester Metropolitan University's Department of Life Sciences. He holds a PhD in Physiology from Beni-Suef University (Egypt) and has held postdoctoral positions at institutions including Granada University (Spain) and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin (Germany). His research focuses on diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and drug-induced toxicity, with a strong emphasis on mechanisms involving oxidative stress, inflammation, and novel therapeutic targets.
**Education**: BSc Zoology & Chemistry, Diploma Analytical Biochemistry, MSc Physiology, PhD Physiology (Beni-Suef University). **Fellowships**: Erasmus Mundus, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, International Atherosclerosis Society, and STDF (Egypt). **Key Achievements**: Developed a DNA aptamer targeting thermogenic adipocytes, contributed to patent applications on glycomimetics, and explored roles of IGF binding proteins and microparticles in vascular health. **Research Themes**: Pharmacological modulation of Nrf2 and PPARγ pathways, antioxidant therapies, and mechanisms of drug-induced organ toxicity.
**Publications**: Over 100 peer-reviewed articles (selected 15 most recent listed above), focusing on flavonoids, oxidative stress modulation, and translational therapeutics. **Collaborations**: Worked with Prof. Yvonne Alexander (MMU) on endothelial dysfunction and Prof. M. Arafat on metabolic signaling. **Labs/Teams**: Involved in cardiovascular research at Charité Berlin and diabetes studies at Helmholtz Zentrum München.
