Ayako Takase

Ayako Takase is an Associate Professor at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), specializing in Industrial Design. She holds a BFA from RISD and currently serves on sabbatical for the 2025–26 academic year. Her work bridges Eastern minimalist aesthetics with Western modern design practices, emphasizing materiality and user empathy.

Research interests focus on cross-cultural design synthesis, sustainable materials, and experiential product development. Her studio work with Observatory explores furniture and product design for global clients like Herman Miller and Samsonite. Awards include the G-Mark and Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Awards.
