Axel Bohmeyer serves as Professor of Educational Science at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences for Social Work in Berlin, having previously held the position of Vice President from 2013 to 2021. His scholarly work centers on Philosophy of Education, Educational Anthropology, Social Philosophy, and Social Ethics.
Bohmeyer earned his doctorate from the University of Cologne in 2006 with a dissertation on the recognition-theoretical foundation of Christian social ethics. His academic background includes studies in philosophy, theology, and educational science across Frankfurt am Main, Vienna, and Cologne.
His research investigates the ethical frameworks underpinning educational and social systems, with a focus on Christian social ethics and recognition theory. He examines how these theories address contemporary issues in social policy and economic justice, contributing to interdisciplinary dialogues between philosophy, theology, and social work.
Bohmeyer's early publications, including edited volumes on Beyond Discourse Ethics (2002) and New Economy (2002), demonstrate his engagement with ethical discourse and economic models. These works reflect a consistent thematic focus on the intersection of ethics, social philosophy, and practical applications in society.
As Managing Director of the Berlin Institute for Christian Ethics and Politics (2005-2013), Bohmeyer led a research team dedicated to exploring Christian perspectives on ethics and politics. His current academic role involves contributing to the Department of Educational Science at his university.
