Marianne Farina serves as Professor of Philosophy and Theology and Core Doctoral Faculty at the Graduate Theological Union (GTU), affiliated with the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology (DSPT) and the Center for Islamic Studies (CIS) since 2005.
Education:
- PhD in Theological Ethics, Boston College (2004)
- MA in Pastoral Theology, Santa Clara University (1996)
- BFA in Communication Arts, Parsons School of Design/New School for Social Research (1974)
Her research centers on Moral Theology, Islamic Philosophy and Theology, Comparative Ethics, and Interfaith Dialogue, with particular emphasis on ethical-religious challenges in contemporary society and Muslim-Christian intellectual exchange. She develops frameworks for meaningful interreligious discourse while examining classical theological resources like al-Ghazali's ethics.
Her publications from 2010-2013 reveal consistent engagement with comparative theological ethics, public square discourse renewal, and human rights across traditions. These works demonstrate interdisciplinary integration of religious studies, political theory, and ethical philosophy, establishing bridges between Islamic and Christian thought while addressing modern societal challenges through theological lenses.
As Core Doctoral Faculty, she contributes to GTU's doctoral formation through supervision and curriculum development in religious ethics and interfaith studies.
