Avner De-Shalit is a Professor of Political Science at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and holds the Max Kampelman Chair in Democracy and Human Rights. He has served in multiple administrative roles, including Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences (2009-2012) and Head of the PPE and Glocal programs. His research bridges empirical analysis with political philosophy, focusing on environmental politics, urban politics, and poverty/inequality.
- Education: BA (1986) and D.Phil. (1990) from The Hebrew University and Oxford University, respectively.
His notable works include Cities and Immigration (2019), The Spirit of Cities (2014, with Daniel Bell), and Disadvantage (2007, with Jonathan Wolff). He has received prestigious awards such as the EMET Prize and Rothschild Prize, and his research on academic boycotts won the Journal of Politics’ top political theory paper award (2017).
- Academic Activities: Chair of the Azrieli Fellows Program Social Sciences Committee (2017-), Director of Kampelman Chair initiatives (scholarships, prizes, annual lectures), and advisor to the Israeli Parliament on future generations (2002-2004).
