Aviva Abramovsky

Aviva Abramovsky serves as the Dean of the University of Idaho College of Law since June 2024. Previously, she was Dean at the University at Buffalo School of Law (2017–2023) and held roles including William J. Magavern Faculty Scholar, Kaufman Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and Associate Dean at Syracuse University. A legal scholar in insurance law, commercial law, and legal ethics, she expanded clinical programs and improved student outcomes at Buffalo Law. She is a member of the American Law Institute and has received multiple awards for her contributions to legal education and practice.

Her research focuses on insurance and commercial law, with significant contributions to regulatory frameworks and legal ethics. She has authored definitive works on the New York Uniform Commercial Code and edited key journals in insurance law.

Professional recognitions include the NYSBA’s Professor David D. Siegel Award (2020), Lamplighter Award (2019), and repeated inclusion in Power Lists by Buffalo Business First. She has also contributed to the evaluation of Supreme Court nominees through her work with the ABA’s Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary.
