Dr. Aven Lee is a Senior Research Technician and Research Fellow at the UQ Centre for Clinical Research within the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences at The University of Queensland. With a PhD and Honours degree in Science from UQ, their research focuses on the molecular biology of membrane transport, regulation of ion channels in kidney and brain, and the role of glutamate transporters in neurodegenerative diseases.
- Education:
- Bachelor (Honours) of Science (Advanced), The University of Queensland
- Doctor of Philosophy, The University of Queensland
Their work has significantly advanced understanding of renal ion transporters/channels and neurotransmitter homeostasis in pathological conditions. Current research investigates excitotoxicity in ALS, including plasma biomarkers like homocysteinesulfinic acid, D-serine, and formaldehyde, alongside gut-brain axis interactions.
Over the past decade, Aven Lee has contributed to 15 peer-reviewed publications (2016–2024), spanning ALS proteomics, glutamate transporter splice variants, and neurochemical regulation. These studies employ molecular cloning, immunolocalization, and mass spectrometry techniques.
Funding includes grants from the Motor Neurone Disease Research Institute of Australia and Nerve Connection Foundation Limited. They serve as an associate advisor for PhD projects on ALS and neonatal brain injury.
