Ave F. Arellano Jr. is a Professor in the Department of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Arizona. He holds joint faculty appointments in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, and in the Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs (GIDP) in Remote Sensing and Spatial Analysis and Applied Mathematics.
His research focuses on data assimilation and atmospheric chemistry, particularly on identifying human fingerprints in the atmosphere through the study of atmospheric constituents emitted from combustion-related activities. His work integrates numerical models with observational data to assess impacts on air quality, weather, and environmental systems.
He leads the Modeling and Analysis of Atmospheric Composition Laboratory (MAAC Lab), fostering interdisciplinary research in atmospheric sciences. His methodological expertise spans remote sensing, spatial analysis, and applied mathematical modeling.
