Ashley Kernicky is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Augusta University’s College of Allied Health Sciences. With a Ph.D. in Adult and Continuing Education from Auburn University (2020) and a Master of Health Science in Occupational Therapy from Medical College of Georgia (2008), she focuses on professional issues, evidence-based practice, and kinesiology in occupational therapy education and clinical applications.

Her research emphasizes occupational therapy interventions for older adults, including aging in place, Parkinson’s disease, and productive aging. She integrates knowledge translation and quality of life assessments into her scholarship, with recent publications addressing dementia, home safety, and low vision care. Her work bridges clinical practice and academic rigor through randomized controlled trials and systematic reviews.
Dr. Kernicky’s recent publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches to gerontological care, neurorehabilitation, and community health. Themes include evidence-based interventions for aging populations, mobility enhancement, and practical applications of occupational therapy in diverse settings.

She mentors students and professionals through programs like AOTA’s Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Mentorship Program and actively contributes to university and professional service via committees, outreach programs, and community mentorship initiatives. Her leadership roles include chairing the Rwanda Study Abroad Committee and organizing interdisciplinary rehabilitation outreach efforts.
