Ashley J. Bohrer is an Assistant Professor of Gender and Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame, holding concurrent appointments in the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies (part of the Keough School) and the Gender Studies program. She earned her PhD in Philosophy from DePaul University in 2016 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in public philosophy at Hamilton College. Her research focuses on intersectional analysis of power structures under capitalism and imperialism, with expertise in decolonial feminism, Marxist theory, and critical prison studies.
Bohrer's work bridges academic and public spheres, including her monograph Marxism and Intersectionality (2020) and translations of Françoise Vergès' decolonial feminist texts. She has conducted research and taught globally, speaking multiple languages including French, Spanish, German, Hebrew, and Arabic. Her scholarship appears in journals like Race & Class and Philosophy Today, with translations into Mandarin and Portuguese.
Her current projects emphasize transnational feminist collaborations and public intellectual work, with articles published in Al Jazeera and InTheseTimes. Bohrer teaches courses on social justice frameworks and critiques of global systems of oppression.
