Ashley Gasten

Ashley Gasten is an Associate Professor in Education & Technology at the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Education. Her work focuses on the intersection of technology, learning, and identity in both formal and informal educational settings. She has extensive experience in K-12 education systems in B.C., Alberta, and the U.K., and currently teaches courses on digital learning, inquiry-based learning, and ICT practices.

Research Interests: Gasten explores how social media impacts post-secondary students and the skills required for learning in open online environments. She leads the Digital Learning and Social Media Research Group with Dr. George Veletsianos, emphasizing design of online courses and self-directed learning strategies.

Professional Activities: She consults on online course design for multiple UBC faculties and has contributed to research projects on technology-enhanced learning. Her dissertation addresses literacies needed for success in MOOCs.
