Dr. Chris Goto-Jones is a Professor in Philosophy at the University of Victoria (UVic) and holds an Honorary Professor title in Asian Studies at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Previously, he served as Chair Professor of Comparative Philosophy & Political Thought and Chair Professor of Modern Japan Studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands. His interdisciplinary research bridges Asian philosophical traditions with contemporary issues like eco-philosophy, magic, and digital culture.

Research focuses on non-mainstream philosophical practices: Japanese/Buddhist traditions, philosophical therapy (meditation/martial arts), and philosophy in performance/visual media. He is a certified philosophical counsellor and runs a private practice using contemplative and eco-centric modalities.
Publications include influential books on Japanese political philosophy, modern Japan, and cultural theory. His MOOC 'De-Mystifying Mindfulness' (2016–present) was globally recognized as one of the best online courses. Upcoming work explores mindfulness through transdisciplinary lenses.
Teaching specialties include Buddhist philosophy, existentialism, eco-philosophy, and philosophical Daoism. Grants and collaborations include development of the award-winning MOOC and ongoing research into digital culture's philosophical dimensions.
