Ashley Cherry, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Lubbock Christian University (LCU), where she is affiliated with the Department of Math and Physical Sciences. She earned her Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Texas Tech University in 2016 and has been actively contributing to academic and campus life since then.
Education:
- Ph.D., Applied Mathematics, Texas Tech University, 2016
- M.S., Mathematics, Texas Tech University, 2012
- B.A., Mathematics, Lubbock Christian University, 2010
Her research focuses on applied and computational mathematics, particularly in nonlinear programming and mathematical optimization. Her doctoral work involved piecewise linear approximation techniques for solving complex nonlinear problems, while her master's thesis explored the mathematical representation of Chaocipher, a cryptographic system. These projects reflect her interdisciplinary interests at the intersection of mathematics, computation, and discrete systems.
Dr. Cherry is recognized for her early-career contributions through her fellowship in the Texas MAA Project NExT program (2017–2018), a prestigious professional development initiative for new mathematics faculty.
- Fellow, Texas Mathematical Association of America Project NExT (2017–2018)
- Member, Mathematical Association of America (2018–present)
- Member, Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (2010–2012)
She is actively involved in university service, currently serving on the Scholars Colloquium Committee and the Admission Appeals Committee, and as a QEP Learning Academy Scholar since 2017. While no formal advisees are listed, her engagement in undergraduate research and academic mentorship is implied through her roles and research background. She also contributes to community service by teaching children's Bible classes and volunteering at the Lubbock Children's Home.
Dr. Cherry is a member of the South Plains Church of Christ, reflecting her personal commitment to community and faith-based service.
