معرفی
Ashish Shelar is an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Genetics at Yale University, affiliated with the Yale Center for Genome Analysis (YCGA) and the Yale School of Medicine. His research focuses on membrane protein structure, GPCR signaling pathways, and immune mechanisms in asthma. Shelar combines experimental and computational approaches to study protein-protein interactions, helical dynamics in membrane proteins, and translational immunology in chronic inflammatory diseases.
Key research areas include:
- Structural biology of transmembrane proteins (e.g., CCR5 receptor regulation)
- Neuronal signaling mechanisms in C. elegans models
- Eosinophil activation dynamics in pediatric asthma exacerbations
- GPCR signal integration in muscle activation pathways
Recent work has emphasized translational research linking molecular mechanisms to clinical outcomes in asthma patients on biologic therapies. Shelar has contributed to developing NeuroPAL fluorescence labeling techniques for neuronal identification and pioneered methods analyzing helix perturbations in membrane proteins. His lab maintains active collaborations with immunologists, pharmacologists, and computational biologists.
Honors include the Carl Storm International Diversity Fellowship (2015). Shelar has mentored postgraduate associates like Anna-Sophia Bougaraev and serves on journal editorial boards for Frontiers in Bioinformatics and Frontiers in Genetics, demonstrating commitment to advancing both basic and applied research.
