Dr. Ashenafi Biru is a Senior Lecturer and Program Manager for the Strategy and Innovation Major in the School of Management at RMIT University. He holds a PhD in Entrepreneurship and Management from RMIT and previously worked at Mekelle University and the Korea Development Institute. His research bridges academia and industry, focusing on entrepreneurship, innovation, strategy, international business, poverty reduction, and financial inclusion.
Education: PhD in Entrepreneurship and Management (RMIT University). Key research grants include the Adobe x Creative Curriculum Grant (2024) and RMIT Innovative Assessment Grant (2024). He has also led projects funded by the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust and KDI School of Public Policy and Management.
Research interests span entrepreneurial ecosystems, regulatory compliance, and inclusive economic development. He co-leads the RMIT Entrepreneurial Academics Network, fostering collaborative innovation. Teaching awards include the 2024 Vice-Chancellor’s Citation Award for Outstanding Contribution to Students’ Learning.
His work emphasizes experiential learning, including developing the serious board game The Entrepreneur Within You to enhance entrepreneurship education. Collaborations include startups, multinational corporations, and government agencies.
