Ashan Pillai is a Sri Lanka-born British violist and Professor at the Conservatoire Superior in Barcelona since 2001. He graduated with first-class honours from the Royal Academy of Music and studied under Donald Mclnnes and Karen Tuttle at institutions including the University of Southern California and Juilliard School.
- International chamber musician at Salzburg, Tanglewood, and Banff festivals
- Principal Viola with Barcelona Symphony Orchestra (2000)
- Member of Zukerman Chamber Players
His research interests focus on viola pedagogy, historical performance practices, and contemporary classical music.
Notable recordings include complete viola works by Hoffmeister, and collaborations with conductors like Christopher Hogwood and Christian Zacarías. He performs on a Gregg Alf viola (after Gaspar de Salo) made in 1992.
