Arthur Smith is a Professor of Physics at Ohio University, where he researches nanoscale magnetic phenomena and surface physics. His laboratory employs molecular beam epitaxy combined with scanning tunneling microscopy to investigate magnetic materials including transition metal nitrides. Smith has received prestigious awards including the Presidential Early CAREER Award and Ohio University Presidential Research Scholar recognition.
Current projects explore spin structures in magnetic monolayers and thin films, with applications in spintronics and magnetic recording. Smith directs the Nanoscale & Quantum Phenomena Institute and has secured over $7.7 million in research funding.
