Arpana Verma

Prof Arpana Verma is a Professor of Public Health and Epidemiology at the University of Manchester, leading the Department of Public Health within the Division of Population Health, Health Services Research & Primary Care. She holds an honorary consultant role at the Office of Health Improvement and Disparities and is affiliated with numerous global health initiatives, including the WHO Collaborating Centre for Health Metrics. Her work spans urban health, blood-borne viruses, and inclusive research, with a focus on reducing health inequalities and informing public health policy.

Prof Verma has a multidisciplinary background, holding qualifications including MBChB (University of Manchester, 1995), MPH (2006), PhD (2011), and FFPH (2011). She leads educational programs such as the MSc in Public Health and the BSc in Public Health, emphasizing community engagement and policy impact. Her research collaborations include international projects like EURO-URHIS 2 and the Well North program, addressing urban health challenges and global health disparities.

Her research interests include family court experiences of domestic abuse survivors, healthcare policy, and the epidemiology of conditions like narcolepsy and hepatitis C. She has contributed to SAGE/SPI-M advisory groups during the pandemic and leads projects on poverty alleviation (PRIOR consortium) and active transport (TRUUD). She chairs the Scientific Advisory Board of SIPHER and advises the Applied Research Collaboration-Greater Manchester (GM).

Prof Verma’s awards include the Clinical Excellence Awards (2017) and Global Health Society Teaching Award (2017). Her work integrates academic research with practical public health interventions, emphasizing equitable access to healthcare and community-driven solutions.
