Prof. Dr. Arnulf von Scheliha is a full professor of Theological Ethics at the University of Münster, holding the W3 chair since 2014. He is a leading scholar in political ethics, religious policy, and interreligious dialogue. His academic journey includes habilitation in Systematic Theology (University of Hamburg, 1997) and a doctoral degree from the University of Kiel (1991). He has held professorships at the Universities of Osnabrück and Hamburg before joining Münster. He is a Principal Investigator in the Cluster of Excellence 'Religion and Politics' and leads research projects on parliamentary theologians and religious education strategies (B3-5 and B3-23).
His research focuses on political ethics, peace ethics, environmental ethics, and the history of 19th-20th century theology. Notable works include Religionspolitik (2018) and Friedrich Schleiermacher als Sozialphilosoph des Christentums (2023). He is a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, chairs the EKD Institute for Research on Religious and Ideological Issues, and serves as Dean of the Faculty of Theology at Münster.
Teaching includes advanced seminars on artificial intelligence ethics, Schleiermacher’s Christian ethics, and contemporary theological positions. His publications span over 100 articles and books, addressing themes like migration ethics, digital communication’s ethical implications, and theological responses to pluralism. He actively engages in public debates on religion in education, migration, and societal ethics through talks and media contributions.
