Arno Apffelstaedt serves as Assistant Professor (Juniorprofessor) of Organizational Economics at the University of Cologne's Faculty of Economics, Management and Social Sciences. He is an Associated Member of the ECONtribute: Markets & Behavior Cluster of Excellence and affiliated with the Center for Social and Economic Behavior (C-SEB).
His research focuses on behavioral and experimental economics with core interests in:
- Organizational design and social behavior
- Formation and enforcement of social norms
- Electoral systems and institutional trust
- Group identity dynamics and image concerns
- Discrimination mechanisms in economic contexts
Recent publications reveal a strong emphasis on experimental methodologies examining how institutional rules shape ethical behavior, with significant contributions to understanding voter fraud impacts on compliance, context-dependent consumer choices, and spontaneous discrimination patterns. Apffelstaedt completed his PhD at the University of Hamburg (2018) following research visits to Harvard University (2016) and the London School of Economics (2014-2015).
