Arnkell Jonas Petersen

Arnkell Jonas Petersen is an Associate Professor at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), Department of Building and Environmental Technology, where he conducts research and teaching in building technology and sustainable architecture. He also holds a secondary appointment as Professor II at the School of Design and Architecture in Oslo, within the Department of Architecture, specializing in constructions, materials, and ecology.

His research centers on sustainability, indoor climate, energy efficiency, daylighting, and building performance. Key areas include:

• Optimization of energy use in buildings
• Daylight analysis and solar shading
• Thermal performance and environmental impact of buildings
• Development of calculation methods for energy use
• Sustainable building materials and facade systems

Arnkell is actively involved in international standardization through ISO/TC 163 SC 2, where he serves as chair of the subcommittee on calculation methods for thermal performance and energy use in the built environment (2023–2029). He has been a member of the Norwegian committee for Thermal Performance and Energy Use in the Built Environment since 2010.
