Armine Bagiyan is a Lecturer at the University of Oslo’s Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Sociology and Human Geography. Her research focuses on regime change and place-making in post-socialist contexts, particularly Armenia (Yerevan) and Ukraine (Kyiv). She teaches courses like SGO2500 (North/South Development) and SGO3500 (Urban Structure and Development).
Education includes a Master’s in Development Studies from the University of Cambridge and a Bachelor’s in Political Science from the American University of Armenia. Her work experience spans roles at the National Assembly of Armenia, European Parliament, UNDP, and US Embassy in Yerevan.
Research interests include public spaces, urban movements, civil society dynamics, aid politics, and sustainable development. She has published extensively on NGOs, civic activism, and post-socialist urbanism. Awards include the Cambridge Commonwealth Scholarship and Franklin Award for Excellence.
Proficient in Armenian, Russian, English, Spanish, and French, Bagiyan’s interdisciplinary approach bridges urban studies, political geography, and development theory. Her current projects analyze aid effectiveness and sustainable development strategies in transitional states.
