Armin von Bogdandy

Armin von Bogdandy is Director at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg and Professor of Public Law at the University of Frankfurt am Main. He is a leading scholar in public law, international law, and constitutional theory, with a strong focus on European integration, transformative constitutionalism, and international public authority.

His research centers on the structural transformation of public law, particularly in the context of European society and Latin American constitutionalism. He is currently working on a monograph on the renaissance of republicanism in constitutional development and co-editing a new edition on Union constitutional law. His work bridges theoretical, dogmatic, and practical dimensions of law.

The recent publications highlight a sustained focus on the conceptual foundations of European society, the constitutional principles of the EU, the role of the CJEU, and transformative constitutionalism in Latin America. These works reflect interdisciplinary engagement with political theory, legal philosophy, and comparative constitutionalism.
