Dr Arman Pili is a Research Associate in the Department of Zoology at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the Conservation Science Group. His work focuses on quantitative and applied global change ecology, with emphasis on mapping global ecological connectivity for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration.
His research spans conservation biogeography, macroecology, and global change ecology, with specific interests in amphibian and reptile conservation, biological invasions, and biosecurity. He pioneers cross-disciplinary methodological approaches by adapting techniques from data science, econometrics, public health, and social sciences to address ecological challenges. His technical expertise includes species distribution modeling, ecological network analysis, machine learning, and spatial statistics.
As an early-career scientist committed to impactful research in the Global South, Dr Pili utilizes biodiversity informatics throughout the full research pipeline—from data collection to implementation. He actively develops connectivity modeling frameworks, particularly the Spatial Absorbing Markov Chain (SAMC) approach, to advance conservation applications worldwide.
