Adam Algar

Dr. Adam Algar is an Associate Professor in the Biology department at Lakehead University, having joined in January 2021. He holds a PhD in Biology from the University of Ottawa and a BSc in Zoology from the University of Guelph. Previously, he served as an Associate/Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham (UK) from 2011–2020 and as a Post-doctoral Fellow at Harvard University's Museum of Comparative Zoology (2009–2011).

His research focuses on understanding species' niche dynamics, integrating physiology, functional ecology, and macroecology to predict species responses to environmental changes. Key areas include ectotherm ecology, biogeography, and climate impacts. He emphasizes bridging microhabitat behavior with large-scale biodiversity patterns.

Recent publications highlight his work on thermal niche filling, invasive species effects, and climate-driven disease dynamics. His lab (Algar Lab) explores topics like thermal physiology, ecological resilience, and global biodiversity conservation.
