Arjen Slangen is Professor of International Business at KU Leuven’s Faculty of Economics and Business, based at the Brussels campus, and has served as Chair of the Department of Management, Strategy and Innovation since 2020. His career includes previous appointments as associate professor, assistant professor, and post-doctoral researcher at Erasmus University Rotterdam, assistant professor at the University of Amsterdam, and visiting scholar at the Sonoco International Business Department of the University of South Carolina.

Research Focus:
His research investigates how national and sub-national institutional environments shape firms’ internationalization strategies. He examines investment location choices, entry modes (greenfield vs. acquisition), and headquarters relocations, integrating institutional theory, cultural distance, and behavioral perspectives. His work contributes to international business, strategic management, and economic geography.

Research Leadership & Mentoring:
Principal investigator on projects examining cultural tightness in FDI location choices and the drivers of headquarters relocations. He has successfully supervised several PhD candidates and served on numerous dissertation committees both within KU Leuven and at external institutions.
