Arjan Blokland is a Professor of Criminology & Criminal Justice at Leiden University's Leiden Law School and a Senior Researcher at the Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement (NSCR). He holds ancillary positions such as Obel Visiting Professor at Aalborg University (2020–2022). His research focuses on life-course criminology, criminal careers, sex offenders, outlaw motorcycle gangs, and cybercrime. He has contributed to studies on the impact of incarceration, domestic violence during the pandemic, and organized crime dynamics.
Key research areas include the intergenerational transmission of crime, sanctions, and victimology. Blokland has published over 200 articles, with recent work addressing darknet forums, child sexual abuse material, and pandemic-era crime patterns.
