Dr. Arig al Shaibah is the Associate Vice-President, Equity & Inclusion at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and holds an Honorary Associate Professor role in the Department of Educational Studies. She leads UBC's strategic equity and anti-racism initiatives, overseeing the Equity & Inclusion Office. Previously, she held senior roles at McMaster University, Dalhousie University, and Queen’s University, focusing on equity, leadership, and policy.
Her academic background includes a Doctorate in Education (Cultural and Policy Studies), Master of Public Administration, and Bachelor of Science (Life Sciences). Her research interests center on policy-based structural inequities, higher education policy, international mobility, and equitable organizational practices. She is recognized for her leadership in fostering institutional equity through the 2021 Angela Hildyard Award.
Dr. al Shaibah’s work integrates scholarship and practice, addressing gender and racial inequities in education and governance. She teaches in UBC’s Higher Education (HIED) and Educational Administration and Leadership (EDAL) programs. Her administrative roles include managing faculty advancement and student affairs at Queen’s University, and cross-appointments in Sociology, Gender Studies, and Public Administration at Dalhousie and McMaster.
