Arietta Slade is an Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at the Yale Child Study Center and Professor Emerita in Clinical Psychology at the City University of New York (CUNY). Her work focuses on reflective parenting, attachment theory, and the development of parental mentalization. She co-directs the Minding the Baby program, an evidence-based home-visiting initiative for high-risk families, which integrates interdisciplinary care and reflective practice.
Her research emphasizes the relational contexts of early symbolization and clinical applications of attachment theory. She has authored/co-authored influential books such as Enhancing Attachment and Reflective Parenting (2023) and Attachment in Therapeutic Practice (2018). Collaborations include work with Peter Fonagy, Lois Sadler, and Margaret Holland on parenting interventions and reflective functioning assessments.
Slade’s contributions span clinical practice, theoretical development, and community programs. Her recent studies include mixed-methods analyses of adolescent motherhood outcomes and narrative reviews of parental reflective functioning measures.
