Alex Slade

Alex Slade is an Associate Professor and Assistant Chair at Otis College of Art and Design, where he has taught since 2000. His academic background includes a BA in Social Science from the University of Michigan and an MFA in Photography from the California Institute of the Arts.

Slade’s artistic practice spans photography, sculpture, and media, focusing on urban systems, landscapes, and their economic and perceptual impacts. Recent projects examine the disappearance of modernist architecture and shifting development patterns in Los Angeles and its surrounding regions. His work has been featured in major exhibitions including the California-Pacific Triennial (2017) and The Whole Earth: California and the Disappearance of the Outside (2013, Berlin).

Slade has received recognition through grants such as the Otis Faculty Development Grant (2013, 2022) and fellowships from the City of Los Angeles and California Community Foundation. His teaching contributions and artistic research highlight intersections of urbanism, visual culture, and environmental transformation.
