Arianna Mazzeo serves as Professor of Design for Social and Digital Innovation at Elisava Design School and Engineering in Barcelona. She leads DESIS Lab ELISAVA within the DESIS Network, directs the Masterlab in Service Design for Place and Community Building, and co-leads TIME (Teaching Innovation through Experiments group) focused on transforming design education. Her work spans international collaborations with entities including UNIFEM, UNESCO, the United Nations, and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Her research centers on enabling smart citizens to co-design public services through social innovation frameworks. She specializes in civic co-production processes for sustainable urban development, leveraging design as a transition tool for community building and smart city initiatives. Her methodology emphasizes peer-to-peer learning, multidisciplinary collaboration, and creative formats as platforms for social-digital innovation, with documented projects improving public service efficiency in Barcelona and beyond.
Mazzeo's operational framework integrates fieldwork across Cameroon, Turkey, Armenia, and South Africa with global cultural initiatives. She curates creative formats for festivals including Open Design Festival Cape Town and Armenia Art Fair, while collaborating with Fablabs networks and institutions like Marseille Living Lab. Her practice bridges municipal governance challenges with citizen-led innovation, particularly in civic commons development and participatory community scenarios.
