Ariana Chiapella is a Lecturer at the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources, University of Vermont. Her research focuses on aquatic ecosystems, particularly the impacts of stressors like invasive species and toxic chemicals on food webs and their implications for environmental management. She holds a PhD from Portland State University and a B.A. from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Key research areas include alpine ecology, mercury bioaccumulation in mountain lakes, and community participatory projects assessing contaminant exposure risks among anglers in Lake Champlain.
Her academic credentials include NSF Graduate Research Fellowship and ESUR IGERT Fellowship, alongside a Certificate of Innovation in College Teaching. Current projects investigate quagga mussel impacts on Lake Champlain's food webs and carbon storage, and a participatory study on contaminant exposure disparities among recreational and subsistence anglers.
