Areni Altun is a Research Fellow at the Eastern Health Clinical School, Monash University. Her work focuses on chronic pain management in refugee populations, migration-related health challenges, and healthcare equity. She has led projects like the 'Improving Access to Healthcare for Refugee Women Living with Chronic Pain' (2021–2022) and co-investigated the ongoing 'A Health Services Directory for Healthcare Navigation and Social Prescribing' (2025–2026).
Her research emphasizes refugee women's healthcare experiences, particularly how pre- and post-migration factors influence chronic pain. She employs qualitative methods and systematic reviews to address gaps in refugee health interventions. Altun has published extensively on these topics, with notable contributions to journals like International Journal for Equity in Health and BMC Public Health.
She received the Graduate Women Victoria Prize in 2020, recognizing her scholarly contributions. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health equity and reducing inequalities.
